Firm builds house for police staff in Nsanje

Kaombe Cattle Feedlot Company and Farm has handed over a staff house at Sorgin Police Unit in Traditional Authority Mbenje in Nsanje District.

Speaking on Friday after the handover, the firm’s owner Christopher Matthews, who is also Agricane chief executive officer, said they wanted to give back to the community they are working in.

He said: “We want the police to work in a conducive environment to provide security to all people, our company’s equipment and the sugarcane we produce on our 300 hectares.

“We are also constructing under-five clinics and school blocks within the community.”

On his part, the company’s community liaising officer Alex Mkwapatira said the house cost K78. 8 million, adding that they also renovated the police unit to the tune of K13.5 million.

He thanked the contractor Emmanuel Jani Construction Company for building the house according to standards.

Mkwapatira said they are planning to construct a bridge across Nyafisi River in the area.

Nsanje district commissioner Dominic Mwandira commended the company for helping the council to address the challenge of police housing in the district.

He said the house will motivate officers to work hard.

Chiromo Police Post officer in-charge Mike James Chambakata also thanked the company for the house.

“We need our officers to live close to their duty stations to serve communities well. Living far from the duty station does not help matters, especially during emergencies,” he said.

Chambakata pledged to work with the community to protect Kaombe Farm in the area.
